[EN] The EU Citizen Rights Corner provides advice and advocacy to organisations who are working with EU citizens and their (former) family members in the Netherlands on questions such as access to social benefits and public services.
The EU Citizen Rights Corner is based at the Law Faculty of the Vrije Universiteit specifically focusses on giving case-by-case legal advice to organisations working with EU citizens in the Netherlands. The EU Citizen Rights Corner is a so-called law clinic: it offers hands-on-legal experience to law school students during the later stages of their studies. They will conduct research and write legal advice on a professional level under the supervision of legal scholars of the Law Faculty of the Vrije Universiteit.
The clinic started in 2023 as a pilot project within the VU Migration Law Clinic. At the time, municipalities and homeless support organisations witnessed a quickly growing number of EU citizens who experienced homelessness and there was much uncertainty about their rights. While there have been some improvements, new questions keep emerging. The clinic is coordinated by Daan de Bruijn and Dion Kramer and will run until December 2027.
[NL] De EU Citizen Rights Corner biedt advies aan organisaties die werken met EU-burgers en hun (voormalige) familieleden in Nederland ten aanzien van vraagstukken rondom toegang tot sociale voorzieningen en overheidsdiensten.
De EU Citizen Rights Corner is gevestigd aan de rechtenfaculteit van de Vrije Universiteit en richt zich specifiek op het geven van juridisch advies aan organisaties die werken met EU-burgers in Nederland. De EU Citizen Rights Corner is een zogenaamde law clinic: het biedt juridische praktijkervaring aan rechtenstudenten tijdens de latere stadia van hun studie. Ze doen onderzoek en schrijven juridisch advies op professioneel niveau onder begeleiding van rechtsgeleerden van de rechtenfaculteit van de Vrije Universiteit.
De clinic startte in 2023 als pilotproject binnen de VU Migration Law Clinic. Destijds zagen gemeenten en daklozenorganisaties een groeiend aantal EU-burgers dak en thuisloosheid ervaring en was er veel onduidelijkheid over hun rechten. Hoewel we de laatste jaren enige verbetering is, doemen er geregeld nieuwe vragen op. De clinic wordt gecoördineerd door Daan de Bruijn en Dion Kramer en loopt tot december 2027.
